Patient Rights and Responsibilities

Surgicare of South Austin believes in the dignity and satisfaction of the individual as an integral part of the care we deliver. Surgicare also recognizes that a respectful relationship between the health care provider and the patient is highly desirable to the provision of proper medical care. In light of these beliefs, the following patient rights and responsibilities are set forth:

The patient has the right to considerate, respectful care and to be treated with dignity. These rights pertain without regard to race, creed, gender, national origin, or source of payment for care.

The patient has the right to informed participation in decisions involving his care. The patient has the right to receive from the physician information which allows the patient to understand the medical procedures to be carried out and to refuse care to the extent permitted by law. The patient has the responsibility to provide accurate and complete information concerning matters related to his medical condition.

The patient has the right to know the identity and professional status of individuals providing service.

The patient has the right to consideration of privacy concerning his medical care. The patient can expect any discussion or consultation involving his care to be conducted discreetly and by only those individuals involved in his care.

The patient is entitled to confidentiality of medical information consistent with the needs of the physicians and the staff involved in the patient's care to share information and monitor the quality of care.

The patient is entitled to request and receive an explanation of his bill for services rendered in the Surgery Center, regardless of the source of payment. The patient has a responsibility to satisfy his financial obligations to health care providers promptly and to provide accurate information regarding the sources of payment and the ability to meet those obligations.

The patient has the right to know what Surgery Center policies, rules, and regulations apply to his conduct as a patient. The patient has the responsibility to observe such policies and the rights of hospital staff and other patients.

The patient is entitled to a prompt, considerate response to an inquiry or complaint. If you cannot resolve a problem directly with the physician, please speak to the Administrator at (512) 416-6006.

The patient has the right to be advised if the Surgery Center or physician proposes to engage in research affecting his care of treatment. The patient has the right to refuse to participate in such research projects.

Children have the same rights and responsibilities as adult patients, these rights to be exerted on their behalf by their parents or legal guardians.

Any complaints may be directed to the Administrator of Surgicare at (512) 416-6006. If this venue does not provide you with an acceptable resolution, the Texas Department of Health is the responsible agency for ambulatory surgical center complaint investigations.
